GFWC Legislative Alerts
The GFWC has sent out three legislative alerts recently. Here’s all the info you need to take action!!
Protect Children Online
Law enforcement has repeatedly warned that children are groomed, enticed, exploited, trafficked, and abused online through platforms we use every day. This has only increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, 31.9 million reports of child sexual abuse material were made to the CyberTipline hosted by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), the nation’s clearinghouse and comprehensive reporting center for all issues related to the prevention of and recovery from child victimization.
During Advocates for Children Week, take action to urge Congress to remove technology companies’ immunity from civil and criminal liability for third-party content on their platforms, which will result in a dramatic decrease in online child sexual exploitation. GFWC joins the National Center on Sexual Exploitation to urge enactment of bipartisan legislation that establishes new statutory authority to hold offenders accountable, specifically on the production and live streaming of the child sexual abuse materials. These bills support victims and increase accountability and transparency for online platforms. Act now to Protect Children and Stop Online Child Sexual Exploitation!
Support Increased Funding for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence
Congressional House and Senate pending FY 2024 appropriations bills propose a 40 percent cut in the Crime Victims Fund, which will hit rural and low-income communities the hardest. Potentially millions of victims nationwide will lose access to lifesaving and life-sustaining child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, and other victim services. Without access to these critical services, the real-time impact will not only be felt by individuals and families, but also in communities nationwide. No program can absorb cuts of this magnitude.
Urge Congress to fully fund critical programs that reach into every community across the nation to provide safety, access to services, prevention and education, and justice for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Please support FY 2024 increased funding for services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Support Childhood Vaccination Efforts
GFWC is proud to partner with Shot@Life to advocate for full funding for global vaccination programs for children! With more than 67 million children missing routine immunizations during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have already seen a rise in the number of measles and polio cases around the globe. You can help ensure we get immunization rates back on track and save lives by urging Congress to fully fund global vaccination programs.
