eConnection 7/7: Display your Banner Proudly!

by Jan W. Hanson, NJSFWC President

Club Banners

Displaying a club banner at any club event is a wonderful way to promote your club. Hang it on your club table at special town days, and walk with it in parades. Take lots of photos with your members with the banner at all activities, and post them on your club’s website, Facebook page and other social media.

To spread your message further, send photos with your press releases to local print and online news sources and to the NJSFWC Webmaster ([email protected]) and Facebook Administrator ([email protected]) .

A banner announcing NJSFWC’s 125th Anniversary hung at NJSFWC’s Headquarters in New Brunswick for the anniversary year. At the June 2021 Board of Directors meeting at Headquarters, the first in-person board meeting since March 2020, the board members hung a new banner and took the picture above. This picture was posted on the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Facebook page.

This Chairman wants to flood Facebook with pictures of clubs with their banners. So display your banners proudly and often, take pictures, post them on your Facebook page and send them to [email protected] so they can be displayed on NJSFWC’s page too.

Highlighted Projects

Each week in the eConnection we will highlight projects selected for the GFWC reports. These Advocates for Children projects can, also, be found on the NJSFWC website.

  1. The Woman’s Club of Belleville organized a Uniform Swap. They arranged for local Boy Scouts, to assist in the collection of used uniforms at their Clubhouse, and at their Elementary Schools. They contacted a local Laundromat to wash the donated items. Those who dropped off uniforms were given a ticket to enable them to be the first to receive a uniform when distribution was held. Due to Virtual Learning the Uniform Swap was not as successful as it could have been. They reported 84 volunteer hours and $400.00 of In-Kind donations.
  2. Before Covid-19 hit the Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant used their Martin Luther King, Day of Service, to be Advocates for Children. One station at the event, was set up to create 30 Paper Bag puppets. These colorful and creative puppets were donated to Children’s Specialized Hospital.
  3. The GFWC Woman’s Club of West Deptford and the West Deptford Junior Woman’s Club supported Embrella – a statewide agency that assists those in Foster Care, specifically those who age out of the Foster Care System. They arranged collection of $500.00 for a project called Dreamers and Believers. The funds were used to allow a young woman to get driving lessons in order to better her life.
