Legislative Alert: Crime Victims Fund

Debbie Riveros, Executive Director of the New Jersey Children’s Alliance, has requested that members of NJSFWC call or email both their Representatives and Senate leaders in Congress asking them to support the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act. See below for Debbie’s email.

For a list and email address of your legislator, go to congress.org and type in your zip code.

Dear NJSFWC members,

Your calls and emails are building support in Congress for the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFSA) H.R. 8061 in the House and S.4514 in the Senate. We stand at 135 bipartisan co-sponsors in the House with growing interest in the Senate companion bill.

National Children’s Alliance’s government affairs experts are on the Hill every day championing the CAC cause, building support for shoring up VOCA and its Crime Victims Fund.

Now the critical moment arrives: Congress works for 13 days before campaign season begins in earnest, and we lose the opportunity to add more co-sponsors until after the election. Even if you have already called, we encourage you to email your U.S. Representative; under Congressional rules, emails are counted the same as letters and can give House offices a clear picture on what matters to their constituents. Please check the current list of co-sponsors here. If your House member is on it, please send them an email thanking them for their support.  If you don’t see their name, please email and them to support H.R. 8061.

On the Senate side, we are focused on adding Senate cosponsors – both Democrat and Republican. Please reach out to your senators and ask them to co-sponsor S.4514, the Senate version of the CVF Stabilization Act.

Your advocacy for VOCA and the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act have been powerful. Our relationships with policymakers continue to grow and provide services to children for years to come.

Every email and call matters. And we are here to make sure your good work reaches the right leaders.

Thank you for your tireless work!
