On November 28th people just like you will join in celebrating Giving Tuesday. “Celebrating?” Yes, because around the world we celebrate the generosity of all organizations like the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Take a moment to think about the past 12 months. NJSFWC filled 2,357 holiday stockings for distribution so that no deployed service person would feel forgotten. In the 75th session of Girls’ Career Institute, 161 junior high school girls, as had thousands of girls before them, participated in a mini-college experience on the Douglass campus, learning about potential careers and being encouraged to attend college. On September 30th, the GFWC National Day of Service, women from Delaware, New York and Pennsylvania joined club women from New Jersey at the Middle Atlantic Region Conference in Atlantic City to contribute 389 pounds of food and $3,155 in gift cards to help relieve the stress of food insecurity for families being served by the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation. We continue to experience power in numbers, demonstrating what can be accomplished in an organization of determined women.
These projects and so many more do not happen without people and places to plan and organize, to educate, to coach and to inspire. We are proud to have a Headquarters building where members meet and work with office staff to make it all happen. But maintenance and other day-to-day expenses are increasing each year.
… a thing worth having is a thing worth paying for; no organization of any kind can be maintained without financial support.” This was written in 1932 by GFWC Foundation Fund Chairman Dr. Clara Burdette, in a campaign to raise money to meet organizational expenses. The world has seen a lot of change in 90 years. What has not changed is that an organization cannot be maintained without financial support.
As we head into our 130th year, on Giving Tuesday we are asking for your donation to help continue the Federation’s work, supporting our members and clubs and making a difference in the communities where we live and work. If you have supported us in the past, thank you. We are grateful and hope you will consider donating again. If you have been thinking, “How can I make a difference in this Federation?” consider a donation on Giving Tuesday or at any other time. If you have never donated, this is an easy first time to do it.

Even if you missed it, it’s not too late! Donate today!
Thank you and may your upcoming Holidays be filled with joy!
In Federation Friendship,
Shirley A. Holly,
NJSFWC President
