eConnection – 11/28 – Giving Tuesday

Dear Federation Sisters,
Today, November 29th people just like you will join in celebrating Giving Tuesday.  “Celebrating?”  Yes, because around the world we celebrate the generosity of all organizations like the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs.

“… a thing worth having is a thing worth paying for; no organization of any kind can be maintained without financial support.”  This was written in 1932 by GFWC Foundation Fund Chairman, Dr. Clara Burdette, in a campaign to raise money to meet organizational expenses.  It was the first-time federation used radio to reach listeners across the country in place of paper.  After 90 years, has anything changed? Instead of radio or TV, we communicate through the Internet.  What has not changed is that an organization cannot be maintained without financial support.

In the past 12 months NJSFWC supplied 1,200 filled backpacks to the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation so that each child in a family affected by cancer had what they needed to start the school year.  In the past 12 months 2,040 holiday stockings were filled for distribution so that no deployed service person would feel forgotten.  In the past 12 months 144 junior high school girls, as had thousands of girls before them, experienced a mini-college experience on the Douglass campus, learning about potential careers and were encouraged to consider attending college.

These projects and so many others do not happen without people and places to plan and organize, to educate, to coach and to inspire.  Much of the planning, designing and scheduling happens in our Headquarters Building.  We are proud to have a Headquarters building where members meet and work with office staff, so every member receives information in a timely manner.  But maintenance and other day-to-day expenses are increasing each year.  On Giving Tuesday we are asking for your donation to help continue the Federation’s work that will continue to allow us to meet all the needs of our members.  If you have supported us in the past, thank you!  We are grateful and hope you would consider donating again.  If you have been thinking, “How can I make a difference in this Federation?” consider even a small donation on Giving Tuesday or at any other time.  If you have never donated, this is an easy first time to do it.

To donate, go to DONATE on the top of the NJSFWC.org home page. Even a small donation creates a rippling effect that not only improves NJSFWC but helps to reach our own communities. Thank you and may your upcoming Holidays be filled with joy!

In Federation friendship,
Shirley Holly
