Special State Project-Operation Chillout
The sweatshirts are piling up so thank you for all of your donations so far. Next week I will have a tally of what we have received to date. In order to streamline the process for arranging a Special State Project speaker there is a change. The Special State Project Vice Chairman, Barbara Rose has agreed to be the coordinator between NJSFWC and Operation Chillout. Middle Atlantic Region
If you have not signed up or the Middle Atlantic Region Conference Webinar the deadline is September 30th. I hope you will consider attending and supporting our Region and GFWC. Besides hearing from the GFWC President and President-elect there will be presentations from other GFWC Board members and each State President gets to give a report. It would be great to have a large virtual turn out from New Jersey.
MEMBERSHIP GRANT-Deadline
NJSFWC Membership Grant funding has been made available through the Shining Future Endowment Campaign to help underwrite membership recruitment and retention efforts. NJSFWC is offering six $100 grants for Club Member Recruitment and retention activities. They will no longer be based on membership numbers.
Please describe the need for the grant in 500 words or less. Include the goals as well as the strategies and activities you will use to achieve your recruitment and/or retention goal.

Deadline for applications is October 1, 2020, and winners will be notified by October 15th, 2020.

I wanted to share a letter from the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College. Whatever your politics you cannot deny the obstacles she overcame to leave her mark on history.
Dear Alumnae and Friends,
It is with profound sadness that the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College acknowledges the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on September 18. As alumnae of a women’s college, we feel a special kinship with Justice Ginsburg, whose career as a lawyer and later as a member of the Supreme Court paved the way for women’s equality and opportunity.
After studying at Harvard and getting her law degree from Columbia, Justice Ginsburg was not offered jobs with any New York law firms. Instead, she joined the faculty of Rutgers Law School in Newark, where, in her 9-year tenure, she inspired and was inspired by her students to tackle cases of gender and employment equality. Appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, Ginsburg consistently fought for equality and opportunities for women and against racial injustice.
Not too many Supreme Court Justices are celebrated in popular media and become “rock stars” for the younger generation, but Ruth Bader Ginsburg was affectionately called the “Notorious RBG,” a reference to rapper Notorious B.I.G., for her well-received dissents of Supreme Court opinions. Her work will have an enduring effect on law and justice in the United States, and she will remain an icon for women for generations to come.
The AADC stands in awe of her commitment to the law, her strength in her long battle with cancer and the enormity of her achievements. She championed the rights of all women, once pointing out that “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.”
With her passing at age 87, we have lost a giant, a trailblazer, a pioneer. We send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all people who live better lives because of her work.
