Spelling Bee

2018 - NJSFWC Headquarters on the campus of Douglass Residential College at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
State Spelling Bee- Saturday, March 3, 2018, at NJSFWC Headqarters in New Brunswick. Registration is at 10:00 am, and the BEE begins at 10:30 am.

Since 1989 local clubs in the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) have sponsored spelling bees for 4th and 5th graders.  Clubs either hold a spelling bee of their own or ask schools to hold spelling bees, after which the club sponsors the three winners in the District Spelling Bee.  Winners from the District Spelling Bee compete in the State Spelling Bee at NJSFWC Headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ.

By sponsoring spelling bees, NJSFWC aims to keep spelling a valued component of education, one that can also be fun, rewarding and encouraging to students.  The ultimate goal is to have students do their best to be the best.  Look for a spelling bee in your local school or community.  Click here to see the NJSFWC Spelling Bee rules.  Click here for a practice word list.

If a club is interested in sponsoring a local spelling bee, log on to the NJSFWC website to download files from the Materials section which contain instructions for preparing for and conducting a spelling bee.
