Day of Service-Going to the Dogs

February 10, 2018

Organizer: Ora Kokol

Have you been shopping for the items suggested in the flyer that was included in  the December ALMANAC and can again be found in the January ALMANAC concerning our Day of Service project ~ “Going to the Dogs”?   If not, see list below**.

Hopefully, you will be joining us on February 10, 2018 at one of the four locations where we will be packing these purchased items to be sent to the two Veteran’s Service Dog organizations we are assisting, as well as packing products to be given to Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). We would ask that each club give a donation to help defray the shipping cost.  You may bring a club check, or of course we never turn way cash, when you bring your items to pack on February 10th.

If you club chooses to purchase and ship their own donations rather than go to one of the designated locations, that is fine.  We ask that you keep account of the number of items sent and a list of what was in each box. Below are the addresses if you choose to send your own boxes.

Patriot Paws – 254 Ranch Trail, Rockwall, TX 75032  Service Dogs of America – 920 Short Street, PO Box 513, Jud, ND 58454 Canine Companions for Independence - Miller Family Campus, 226 Middle Island Road, Medford, NY 11763

Here are the addresses of the four collecting and packing sites: Pequannock Senior House – 630 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains, 07444 NJSFWC Headquarters – 55 Labor Center Way. New Brunswick, 08901 Woman’s Club of Vineland Clubhouse – 677 Main Road, Vineland, 08361 Shore District location is pending.

If your club would care to give a donation in lieu of purchasing items, they may send their contribution to Headquarters with the check made out to NJSFWC and ear-marked Day of Service.

It is interesting that the brand and type of products requested are the same from all three organizations.  None of these selected groups are subsidized by the government, and rely solely on individuals and companies to support them. You will notice from the “Wish List” that they request different size toys, leashes, collars. These are needed as the dog‘s growth needs change.

Both the Service Dogs of America and Patriot Paws informed this Chairman that NJSFWC was the first service organization that has ever offered to assist them both financially and with items for the dogs, their trainers and later the service dog recipients.

So lets all get behind this super project to help all those individuals who are waiting and hoping for a Service Dog to make their lives a little easier and happier for them!
